Liverpool University's English School is well established and has particular expertise in the following fields: Medieval Studies; The Renaissance; The Eighteenth Century; The Victorian Period; American Literature; Textual Editing; Science Fiction; Discourse Analysis; Modern Poetry.
We were awarded 5*, the highest achievable ranking, in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise, upgraded to the new highest grade of 5** in 2003. Graduate studies in the School of English was awarded the highest category of 'very well developed'.
The University training programme has been commended as an example of ''good practice' by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
