Where can you study and work most economically in the UK?
London is the most cost-effective city in which to study and work, according to a recent study by the Royal Bank of Scotland.
The research revealed that the average London undergraduate spent £243 a week on living and housing costs and earned £150 from part-time work, leaving a gap of £93.
At St Andrews, the least cost-effective of the 24 towns studied, the average undergraduate spent £190 and earned £63. The resulting gap of £127 meant St Andrews students were £34 a week worse off than those in London.
On average, those with part-time jobs worked 16 hours per week, although 31 per cent worked more than 20 hours. The most popular term-time jobs amongst students in the UK included bar and shop work.
UK’s 10 most cost effective towns, in order.
1. London
2. Liverpool
3. Birmingham
4. Manchester
5. Sheffield
6. Cardiff
7. Coventry
8. Southampton
9. Dundee
10. Leicester
