Australia: Deakin tops teaching awards
Nine staff members at Deakin University in Victoria have been given one of Australia’s most prestigious teaching awards. The Carrick Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Students Learning recognise the best teaching talent in Australia, and institutions can only be awarded a maximum of ten of these awards in any one year.
Professor Sally Walker, the Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University, said “to receive nine out of a maximum of ten is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the commitment of Deakin’s staff to teaching excellence.”
Deakin University has also won the Australian University of the Year award twice – once for it’s use of technology in education, and also for it’s partnerships with industry, specifically their excellent industry placement schemes.
There are three main campuses at Deakin – in metropolitan Melbourne, on the coast at Geelong, and a beautiful rural campus in Warrnambool, Victoria. In addition to a wide range of faculties and courses, it also offers MBA programs, English language courses and distance learning options for students around the world.
As well as having excellent teaching results, Deakin is also one of the best research universities in Australia.

Hello!
My name is Ilundy Pereira,I'm from Mozambique, Maputo (speak portuguese). I would like to apply at yours University at year 2009 and I'm interested in Master of Arts (International Relations) / Master of International Business. This year (2007) it is my last year at University (Bachelor or Licenciatura Degree). I would like to know if it is possible to get in at Deakin University? But, at first I would like to do a course of English (like 5 weeks or more), for better performance, to improve my English.
I'm doing International Relations and Diplomacy (last year)at the "Instituto Superior de Relações Internacionais" (Superior Institute of International Relation) at Maputo. When I was looking at Postgraduate Courses (Master), I was captivated by Master of Arts (International Relations) / Master of International Business...To me, it seems that is a good course to do, because for who are perhaps already working in the diplomatic arena or in other public sector organizations dealing with international relations, this course will allow a greater focus on the trade and economic dimensions of these relations.
About the fees, the price it is the same all years or it change year by year? The course duration it's about 2 years, so the fee-year (fee per year) it's $18,290 AUD, and this means that in two years it must pay $36,580 AUD? It is possible to get a scholarship or pay an half fee ($9,145 AUD)? Because I'm in financial needed and I'm an International Student. And this means that the lifestyle of Mozambique (Africa) it is very different from Australia, and also if I pay all that ($18,290 AUD), for me it will be difficult to survive at Australia. So, from you I would like a help to continue my studies.
I think that Deakin University was made for me, and I would like to have an answer from you, and I'll grateful to get in at Deakin University.
Thank you.
