Australia: New business program gets graduates job-ready
In the first university programme of its kind, students studying the new Professional degrees at Griffith University are on-campus before the first trimester even begins.
The new Bachelor of Commerce (Professional) in Accounting or Financial Planning allows students to network and learn from industry through a professional development program. It was introduced this year to meet demand for more qualified professionals who could get the job done from day one.
“During the Ernst & Young Bachelor of Commerce Professional Development Program students will get to hear and interact with industry representatives,” said Dr Mark Brimble, Director of the Griffith Business School. “On the final day we’re holding an industry breakfast where students will get to network with more than 20 industry representatives.”
The program allows students to combine technical skills with practical understanding. “Technical skills are only one component in what makes people successful in business,” says Ernst & Young Queensland Managing Partner, Jenny Parker.
After their first year, students also complete a paid industry placement part-time, and study part-time for the remaining two years.
Professional development sessions run throughout the degree, covering practical matters like dealing with clients, networking, time recording and budgeting, file management, personal planning and an introduction to industry software.
As well as Ernst & Young, many other companies are involved in the program – including KPMG, Tupicoffs, Marsh Ticknell and the ICAA.
Griffith Business School is based at the university’s Logan campus just south of Brisbane, and also offers one of the best MBA programs in Australia. For more information on any of the courses available at Griffith University, talk with one of our counsellors today.

Respected Sir/Madam,
I may kindly be given permission to write few lines for favour of your kind consideration and sympathetic action please. I know you do not have sufficient time to look into the trifling matters. However, I very fervently appeal you to kindly spare few minutes from your most valuable time to go through the contents of my letter.
First of all, I would like to introduce myself that I am a 18 years old Nepali boy hailing from Nepal. My name is Samir Pradhan (Shrestha) and I have just completed my higher secondary school scoring 73.75% in commerce stream. There is no degree college attached with this school. I have immense desire to continue my study but my parent is financially incapable to support my further studies. My father works on temporary basis as computer operator in one of the office who earns Rs. 6030.00 six thousand thirty only (equivalent to US $ 131.00) in a month. Besides spending his major portion of his monthly salary for my studies, he has to look after his old aged parents and one of my younger school going brother as he is the sole bread earner in our family. My dream to continue study is going to be traumatized as my economically poor parents can not afford for my further studies. These days I am persuing my degree courses in one of the cheap private college in India.
In this connection, I had written several letters to concerned universities for free scholarship but none of the institutes has replied so far. In view of the above circumstances, I modestly beseech your honour to kindly look into my pathetic situation and generously support for my further study. I promise your honour that after completion of my degree I shall work under your kind control and direction without any condition. I shall remain ever grateful and obliged to you.
Yours faithfully,
Sd/-
