US: Pacific Lutheran professor receives top award
Pacific Lutheran University’s Assistant Professor of English, Rona Kaufman, recently received the 2008 Graves Award in the Humanities.
The award is given every two years to up to 10 faculty members from private colleges in California, Washington and Oregon. Recipients must exhibit exemplary skill and enthusiasm as teachers, and use the award stipend for a research project that will enhance their skill in the classroom.
Kaufman is the sixth PLU faculty member to receive the award. “Rona is an extremely innovative teacher,” said Jim Albrecht, English department chair. “We nominated her both on her outstanding record as a teacher at PLU and the strength of her research proposal for the award.”
Pacific Lutheran University is a warm and friendly university with about 3,600 students. It offers a dynamic liberal arts program and is the only Northwest university to be listed every year within the top 15 regional universities in the US News Best College survey.
Located on 126 beautiful acres in Parkland, Washington state, PLU is 40 miles south of Seattle. Mount Rainier and the Washington coast are within two hours of the campus.
PLU’s Lutheran heritage is reflected in its aim to educate students for lives of thoughtful inquiry, service, leadership and care – for the community and the world. Students from all faiths and countries find a welcoming close-knit community of students and teachers. If you are looking for a university where you can really get to know your teachers, and make friends to last a lifetime, then PLU could be for you.
