Australia’s Queensland Institute of Business and Technology (QIBT), in association with Griffith University, has a new range of diploma programs on offer.

You can choose to do a Diploma in Biosciences, Engineering or Criminology & Criminal Justice and begin your studies right now. The diplomas have intakes in February and June each year.

These new courses add to QIBT’s current program offerings in the areas of Commerce, Graphic Design, Hotel Management and Information Technology. QIBT also delivers Griffith University’s Foundation and Postgraduate Qualifying programs which are recognised by many well-known universities throughout Australia for the purpose of entry with advanced standing.

Classes are delivered by QIBT and Griffith University on the university’s Mt Gravatt and Nathan campuses in Brisbane. Both campuses are set amidst native Australian bushland yet are a short bus ride from the city.

Newcastle College introduces International Foundation Programs

Newcastle is the UK’s only college to offer two International Foundation Programs which allow you to start your degree program as early as September 2007.

The two foundation programs run from 19 April 2007 to 31 August 2007. You can choose either the International Foundation Program which provides you with access to Newcastle College’s business degree or the Super Intensive International Foundation Program which allows you access to all UK universities.

The International Foundation Program’s content includes one Higher Education Foundation Certificate (HEFC) in business and 20 hours per week of English as a Foreign Language. The English lessons focus on business vocabulary and writing skills.

The Super Intensive International Foundation Program’s content includes three Higher Education Foundation Certificates (HEFCs) in business, quantitative methods and IT, and six hours per week of English as a Foreign Language.

Both programs require IELTS 5.0 for entry.

Perth Institute of Business and Technology could be your choice for fast tracking…

With small class sizes, the opportunity to fast track and the ability to transfer to affiliated Institutes of Business and Technology, PIBT offers several advantages over other tertiary institutions.

PIBT's innovative three-semester system allows you to fast track your studies and complete you course in only eight months. This allows you to enter university earlier than those studying in a conventional two-semester system. You also have additional flexibility with intakes in February, June and October. If you enter at the Diploma Stage I (Certificate IV) level, you can complete this course along with your Diploma Stage II in just four semesters (or 16 months).

The PIBT Diploma programs are accredited as university-level diplomas and international students who successfully finish their diploma program are guaranteed entry to the second year of the relevant bachelor degree.

PIBT lecture groups have a maximum of 50 students — much smaller than the average university. Lectures are complemented by small group tutorials/workshops ensuring you receive the best of attention.

A special program of English and academic studies has been developed for those international students who do not quite satisfy the English language requirement. This course would be undertaken for at least one semester.

PIBT is located on the Churchlands Campus of Edith Cowan University; only 8km from Perth, Western Australia. Being based at the university allows you access to the full range of services and amenities available on the campus, including library, cafes, computing laboratories, and sporting and recreational facilities.

INSEARCH offers a fast track to second year university courses in Australia

You may have missed out on a university place this year but it’s not too late to be a second year university student in 2007.

The INSEARCH Diploma of Business and Commerce (Advanced Standing) allows you to complete the University of Technology, Sydney’s first year Bachelor of Business program in two twelve-week semesters. The course runs from June to February so you are ready to enter UTS’s second year Bachelor of Business as though you had started at the same time as everyone else in the degree program. Late enrolments are accepted until the 30th of June. INSEARCH also puts you ahead of students at some other pathway providers who only complete the requirements for application to first year.

Education for INSEARCH Group General Manager Jenny Hannan said this was possible because INSEARCH was part of UTS and it designed and taught its courses in conjunction with UTS to ensure they fit the university’s requirements.

Chris Fennell is a second year UTS Bachelor of Business student who last year completed the INSEARCH pathway course. Chris said the INSEARCH course prepared him well for UTS and gave him the grounding to earn distinctions on his first two assignments.

Miss out on the tertiary entrance score you were hoping for?

With various organisations offering alternatives to direct entry into university, you can still realise your study goals despite a disappointing tertiary entrance score.

IBT is one such organisation offering a wide selection of pathway programs in conjunction with universities in Australia and the United Kingdom.  Studying at an IBT college means you will study a university-designed program with university lecturers on a university campus with small classes.

If you are eligible for the fast-track program, you can complete your entire Bachelor degree in less than three years because when you study an IBT Diploma, you study the same units as the first year or the first semester of a Bachelor degree. Therefore, upon completion you enter into either the second year or second semester of the partner university Bachelor degree.

QIBT Diploma of Design graduate Isabel Kemp did not receive a high enough OP to get into her degree of choice after completing high school.  Ms Kemp said she opted to do the QIBT course so she could enter straight into second year of the Bachelor of Design at Griffith University without wasting any time.

All IBT colleges have up to three intakes per year for most programs, so you can choose when to start your program.
